SafeSplint was created to standardize proper splinting techniques improving outcomes and leading to better healing.

Developed by Dr. Jeffrey Deren, the SafeSplint short arm splint is intended to reduce the inconsistencies of splinting, hand, wrist and forearm fractures.

By utilizing a patented design consisting of 3 different air bladders, the SafeSplint keeps the wrist in the safe position of the hand preserving the tendons and ligaments before going for orthopedic attention or surgery.

In a study from the University of Maryland School of Medicine study of pediatric cases 90% of patients presenting to their clinic were not splinted properly.

Current splinting techniques used in Emergency Rooms are inconsistent and often incorrectly applied, causing further pain and damage to the patient before Orthopedic specialist intervention, requiring a longer rehabilitation period.

Poor attention is paid to splinting techniques and education. Post injury swelling, pain, and proper joint positioning is ignored. The splints are often worn, unadjusted, for 3 to 7 days before patients are able to get proper orthopedic attention. Improper position of the hand and wrist allows ligaments to remain relaxed, and subsequently shorten, which creates a longer rehabilitation period after surgery/specialist intervention.

In a study in the Iowa Orthopedic Journal, overall error/complication rates of splinting were 61%.
